    flower garden
  • Flower Garden is a solitaire card game using a deck of 52 playing cards. It is not known why the game is called such, but the terms used in this game do have a relation to those in gardening and it takes merit that some skill is needed. It is also known under the names The Bouquet and The Garden.

  • a garden featuring flowering plants

  • A flower garden is any garden where flowers are grown for decorative purposes. Because flowers bloom at varying times of the year, and some plants are annual, dying each winter, the design of flower gardens can take into consideration to maintain a sequence of bloom and even of consistent color

Community Garden Plan for 2011

Community Garden Plan for 2011

Our plan for this year. We have two 12x12 plots in the organic section of the community gardens at the IL State Fairgrounds. It's not the most efficient plan, but organizing things into quadrants makes it easier for me to manage things.

This is the 3rd year for the comm gardens, we've been in the same plots since the beginning. It's great to have this space to garden since the usable space in backyard is limited.

Sometimes it can be a real chore to get out to the gardens regularly, but it's all worth it. The majority of the greens and part of the veggies will be donated to the Plant A Row For The Hungry program.

flower of the philippines - The Orchids

The Orchids of the Philippines

The Orchids of the Philippines

This book is an excellent blend of information for serious orchid growers as well as orchid enthusiasts who may have plants of Philippine origin in their collections. It documents both the popular, well-known species and those of botanical interest in a format designed to aid in identifying species found in collections. Descriptions are accompanied by more than 300 color photos.

Jim Cootes knows orchids so well that two species have been named after him. The author notes in his stunning Orchids of the Philippines reveal that he has even found a pure white flower, rare as a snow leopard: "An albino form of Dendrobium fairchildiae." This volume consists of an exhaustive and hypnotic listing of over 300 species of orchids--plants native to the archipelago, which have been discovered and classified by Cootes and others over decades of research.
Each entry includes a vivid color photograph and a series of subcategories, including growth habits, petals, habitat, and distribution. The roots of botanical names are traced for descriptive meanings. Occasional notes allow the author's voice into the proceedings, and the prose is often inadvertently poetic, as in this description of the habitat of the Bulbophyllum antenniferum: "It normally grows as an epiphyte, usually on the trunks of trees, but has been observed by the author growing on rocks in dappled light." Orchid enthusiasts beware: most of the plants shown here can only be grown in greenhouses. --Emily White

The 2011 Import and Export Market for Cut Flowers and Foliage in Philippines

On the demand side, exporters and strategic planners focusing on cut flowers and foliage in Philippines face a number of questions. Which countries are supplying cut flowers and foliage to Philippines? How important is Philippines compared to others in terms of the entire global and regional market? How much do the imports of cut flowers and foliage vary from one country of origin to another in Philippines? On the supply side, Philippines also exports cut flowers and foliage. Which countries receive the most exports from Philippines? How are these exports concentrated across buyers? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers?

This report was created for strategic planners, international marketing executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for cut flowers and foliage in Philippines. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics which appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for cut flowers and foliage for those countries serving Philippines via exports, or supplying from Philippines via imports. It does so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models.

In what follows, Chapter 2 begins by summarizing where Philippines fits into the world market for imported and exported cut flowers and foliage. The total level of imports and exports on a worldwide basis, and those for Philippines in particular, is estimated using a model which aggregates across over 150 key country markets and projects these to the current year. From there, each country represents a percent of the world market. This market is served from a number of competitive countries of origin. Based on both demand- and supply-side dynamics, market shares by country of origin are then calculated across each country market destination. These shares lead to a volume of import and export values for each country and are aggregated to regional and world totals. In doing so, we are able to obtain maximum likelihood estimates of both the value of each market and the share that Philippines is likely to receive this year. From these figures, rankings are calculated to allow managers to prioritize Philippines compared to other major country markets. In this way, all the figures provided in this report are forecasts that can be combined with internal information sources for strategic planning purposes.
